August Energy Shift: How to Align Your Body Before Fall

ree

Waking up and realizing it’s August… whoa. Time is moving.

It reminded me of something from a book I read last year, Moonwalking with Einstein. There’s a part about how time seems to fly when we do the same thing every day. Autopilot makes the days blur together. But when we do something new, when we explore, travel, step into the unfamiliar, time opens up.

Our bodies and minds recalibrate to what’s unfamiliar. We see more, feel more, remember more. Taste lingers. The colors get brighter. Life slows down...just a little.

While I love a good routine (the sacred kind, not the soul-numbing kind), if we want to call in something we’ve never had, we usually have to do something we’ve never done. That could be a new habit, a new version of ourselves, or a bold move, like pitching that idea, saying yes to help, or choosing to be seen in a way that stretches us. To do that new thing, our body is key.

August is one of those blink and you miss it months. A blink, and it’s gone. The season shifts. The energy turns inward. Just the other day, I was channeling and my guides dropped in with their usual poetic (and often hilarious) clarity:

“Enjoy today. It’s not just a placeholder for another day.”

So simple. So obvious. So easy to forget.

We can utilize this powerful month of summer energy to align, reconnect and learn how our body speaks to us. So that we can move forward into fall towards our desires and rest.

Your Body Remembers Everything

As the energy shifts this month, so does your body. It’s always responding, always talking to you.

Our bodies hold the memory of past lives, ancestral lineage, childhood experiences, even the things we haven’t fully processed yet. The ache in your shoulders? That might be more than poor posture. The tension in your gut? It might be your body waving a little red flag.

The wisdom isn’t out there...it’s already inside.

Yes, guidance is beautiful. Mentors, support, community, I’m all for it. But we have to stop handing over our inner knowing. The more you reconnect with your body, the more sovereign you become. The more free you feel.

So… How Do You Reconnect?

You move. That’s it.

Walk, dance, stretch, run, do yoga, take a class, flail your arms in your kitchen to 2000's R&B. Just move.

We disconnect so easily. We float. We numb. We tune out. But the truth is, your body is constantly giving you clues. You don’t have to interpret every single one, but pausing to listen can change everything.

Here are a few weird-and-wonderful ways I tune in:

  • The Body Pendulum Test: Stand up, face north, ask a yes/no question. Let your body lean. Forward = yes. Backward = no. Simple.

  • The Name Energy Check: Say “I am [your name]” a few times. Feel it. Then say “I am [a name that’s not yours].” Feel that. Now you’ve got your internal yes/no signature.

  • 6-Minute Qi Gong Before Bed: I swear by this practice. It helps clear the noise and reset my energy.

Listening Instead of Numbing

Full transparency: I’m not perfect at this.

On my birthday trip, the Airbnb mattress wrecked my back. I could barely walk. I took pain meds because I wanted to enjoy the day. But when I can, I try to pause first and ask: what is this pain here to show me?

Because it’s always something. Congestion, headaches, cramps, they’re not random. Even if the trigger is physical, the body’s still holding more than what we can see.

For me, lower back pain has come and gone since my early 20s. Sometimes it flares during emotional stress. Sometimes during transitions. I don’t think that’s coincidence and often I find a direct connect for why the pain showed up. The cure for the pain or being uncomfortable? Time. Isn't that the worst? I'm kidding.... we always want that quick fix, but when we take our time to feel to heal, we not only do physical healing we also heal emotionally and energetically as well. When I have an ache or pain, I remember my yoga teacher training with my amazing teacher Karen. Movement eases pain, when we don't move, everything constricts. This doesn't mean do a super hard workout when you can hardly move from back pain, but it does mean moving your body around starts to release the tension, emotionally and physically. Even if it is simply stretching or walking.

Movement Changed Everything

When I was healing anxiety years ago, it wasn’t just the diet changes or meditation, it was movement that cracked something open.

My energy needed somewhere to go. Running, yoga, Pilates, bootcamp, it gave that chaos somewhere to land. Slowly, the anxiety quieted. I felt stronger. Sharper. More me.

It’s still my go-to. Movement makes me feel alive, confident, and clear.

A Little Invitation for You

Before August slips away, try tuning in.

🌀 Try the qi gong video I linked above.

🏃🏻‍♀️Move your body every day, even just a little.

💬 Ask your body a Y/N question, and feel the answer.

You don’t need to figure it all out. Just start listening again. Your body’s already speaking.

With love,

Nikki
